FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I am deeply concerned and seek your abandonment of the proposed rule change for contact lens prescriptions. Contact lenses must remain a medical device and demand the care of a professional fitting and monitoring them to protect eye health. Current rules adequately ensure that patients receive a contact lens prescription upon their safe and effective fitting. Further legislation will only add costs to contact lens wearers by requiring HIGHER fees to cover the costs of these proposed changes and will NOT benefit the patient (consumer). I stand with consumer groups, senators and representatives in requesting you abandon these new proposed changes. Your energy, time, and government money would be better spend on enforcement of current rules including suppliers to properly obtain and fill contact lens prescriptions. I am not opposed to how my patients receive their lenses; I am opposed to anything that adds risk to their eye health or costs of doing so and I stand opposed to government interference with common sense.
