FTC 16 CFR Part 315 Public Workshop Examining Contact Lens Marketplace And Analyzing Proposed Changes To The Contact Lens Rule
I am a doctor of optometry who's in practice for over 20 years. I oppose the FTC commissions new burdensome rule that they want to impose on optometrists. For a few reasons, first, 50% of the time, the patient's contact lens prescription is not available until the doctor sees the exact rx on the eye and evaluated it appropriately. First time wearers sometime take more than a month. Second, it will be very time cosuming, especially for someone like me who has a small practice and literally does everything herself. Third, the rules are already in the state law language that we as doctors have to provide the rx, and the timeline of when it expires is also in that language. I would advise FTC to instead focus on unlawful and harmful selling practices of online contact lens websites to crack down on noncompliance with state laws. Thank you
