I am concerned about the health and safety aspects of sprayed and sheet insulation materials as a result of the serious fire risks and solvent emissions from some of these materials. I believe that improved regulation is needed, to give clarity and guidance to clients, specifiers, designers and installers. This should ensure that all these companies are operating on a "level playing field" so that purchasers have easy access to the relevant data on performance, fire risks,VOC risks, recommended installation procedures and health & safety precautions. I believe that purchasers of home insulation products need to know, in addition to the R value, the risks of fire, effects on ventilation, interstitial condensation, potential damage to adjacent timbers and the effects of VOC's as well as installation recommendations and health & safety advice.
