Understanding Competition in U.S. Prescription Drug Markets: Entry and Supply Chain Dynamics
I am a owner of a community pharmacy since 2002. Since that time I have experienced PBMs take away my customers through no choice of their own by adopting a scenario of an uneven playing field. fair competition is all I would ask for. Last week a long time customer was forced to go to a PBM because the medication they were on cost over $1200.00 for which I was reimbursed $500. No business can survive a lose such as the above example which is more common every day. PBMs get to charge customers high copays when the cash price would cost the customer less money than insurance. I am not allowed to tell the customer they could save money by paying cash. The whole PBM, Chainstore/Insurance/PBM under one umbrella such as CVS is a monopoly and does not financially benefit the customer or the health care system
