Understanding Competition in U.S. Prescription Drug Markets: Entry and Supply Chain Dynamics
Please deny the merger of cvs/caremark & Aetna. I own an independent pharmacy in Florida and I see 1st hand how these mergers reduce patient's choice, decrease competition, and increase healthcare cost to the patient's ultimately. Many patients are being force by all the PBMs to only go to their own PBM's own pharmacy. CVS/caremark deceptively tells patients that they can only get their prescriptions at cvs when in fact they can go elsewhere. PBMs have been a part of the healthcare system since about the early 1990s. If job is to supposedly decrease prescription cost, how is it that every year the keep making billions of dollars while still increase patient's copay and decrease pharmacy reiumbursemnt? They have made the true cost of prescriptions so difficult to understand so they can keep reducing pharmacy reimbursement while the keep the profits. Transparency is the key. We independent pharmacies are force into contracts where we have no say in the reiumbursements. The patient should have the ultimate say in where he/she would like their presriptions filled, what doctor to go to. They pay the premiums, the insurance companies work for us, but over the last few years, it seems as though we all work for them. They tell us what doctors to go to, what pharmacy to go to, what prescriptions we can and cannot take, even if the doctor writes for it. These monopolies need to stop!!!!!!!
