Understanding Competition in U.S. Prescription Drug Markets: Entry and Supply Chain Dynamics
My name is Hanna Badr and I am an owner of an independent pharmacy. The practices of the PBMs are definitely going to wipe the independent pharmacies off the market. May times the PBMs prices are lower than the actual cost we pay for prescription drugs. They use unfair practices to force patients to use their mail order pharmacies instead of competing with us based on service. Even when patients use independent pharmacies, the patients end up having to switch their "specialty" medications to mail order which is extremely unfair. The face to face interaction is far better for patients with special needs than a "specialty" mail order pharmacist who doesn't even know who they are. In short, if PBMs are left to regulate themselves, patients will suffer and possible lose their lives because the level of care provided by chain pharmacies is less than adequate at best. patients rely on the personal service they receive from smaller more personal service like the service they receive from independents thanks Hanna Badr, RPH
