Understanding Competition in U.S. Prescription Drug Markets: Entry and Supply Chain Dynamics
A PHARMACIST LETTER, PLEASE READ!!!!!1This merger must not be approved. It goes against laws put in place, which clearly have been deregulated, by our great president Theodore Roosevelt to prevent the formation of monopolies, which were the cause of the great depression. Working for a small chain pharmacy, I have seen prescription insurance companies already owned by CVS (Caremark) restrict their members to using only CVS pharmacies. CVS is not the only company which has restricted their members. Here in North Carolina, only a small group of insurance companies allow their members to freely patronize any pharmacy they choose. Ultimately, if this merger is approved our already small pool of possible customers becomes even smaller. These practices have negatively impacted small chain and independently owned pharmacies and put many out of business. If you do not want to be responsible for the demise of the mom and pop and small chain pharmacies and the cause of hundreds of job losses due to the closure of these pharmacies, please I beg you to not allow this merger!!! I will also urge you to force all the other prescription insurance companies to lift the all the restrictions they have already placed on their members in choosing a pharmacy to fill their prescriptions. I trust that the right decision will be made to keep our country and economy healthy and productive. Thank You for your time with this matter.
