Consumers in the marketplace of eldercare are neophytes. It's often the first time that they are entering this unfamiliar territory of finding what they want in elder care, and they will make tons of mistakes. It's our job as professionals to hold their hands, and to do it ethically, with patience and compassion. There is not a place for online internet companies who are motivated to only make money, if by chance their system works. They don't educate the consumer about options or the system so that they are empowered to make good decisions - they grab the information and spray it into the marketplace. Currently, the UNWRITTEN rule is that the first company to refer to senior living communities, will get the commission if they move in. These companies are bullies with attorneys who fight to get the money. It doesn't matter what their client wants; if they switch to work with a personalized professional agency and want them to get credit OR if they want to sever connections with these two big internet operations - it's not their CHOICE. That's where the problem lies. At an emotional time in a families' life, they don't have any consumer protection.
