In the Matter of Red Ventures Holdco, LP and Bankrate, Inc., File No. 1710196
As the owner of a small placement and referral service providing personalized service to seniors looking for senior living communities, I applaud the consent agreement in this letter. I receive far too many calls from desperate seniors not satisfied with the impersonal and unhelpful listings provided to them from A Place for Mom and other monopoly referral companies. When I attempt to help them and call my own reputable homes for placement, they are unable to reimburse me for my time due to the one year commitment APFM forces their customer as well as the community into. The family who initiates the call to me for help has no idea what they have committed to leading to more frustration when I explain I cannot help them. Third party referral service companies should have a right to do business in a caring, professional manner, actually meeting their clients, learning their needs, and accompanying them on tours of appropriate communities that meet their budget and their health issues. This decision will allow smaller companies to continue to do what companies like mine are meant to do: serve our seniors in a compassionate, caring, and hands on manner.
