The changes to the FERPA enacted through the unelected bureaucracy courtesy of vague legislative language are dangerous. The trend of tracking children in a database year to year with personally identifiable information is heinous. Teachers should not be matched with students. Parents must be informed of ALL data being collected and consent from them must be sought BEFORE the fact. The government has no "right" " to any data on anybody's child unless explicit permission is granted for every piece of information collected. These are little human souls we are talking about and their security must never be sacrificed on the alter of scheming big money big profit high tech educational gimmicks. Roll things back to the original FERPA and then tighten it to prevent any and all personally identifiable information. Then empower parents to control the spigot of information based on their own expert knowledge of their little human. Children should stop being treated like a commodity.
