License Portability I have been personally affected by this as a military spouse who is also an attorney. When we moved from AR to CA, I had to take a new bar exam - only offered every 6 months - and then wait 6 months for the results. We moved a year later! While there has been some movement with reciprocity among sister states, they often come with residency requirements or a certain number of years working in each state. When I have to move every 2 to 3 years, it can totally derail my career. Ninety percent of the law is the same and the skills are one hundred percent the same - there has to be a better way! Our family lost hundred of thousands of dollars of income over our multiple moves. And when my military spouse died 5 days after his retirement, I had to pick-up my career because I was now the breadwinner.
