16 CFR Part 316; CAN-SPAM Rule: Rule Review; Request for Public Comments; Project No. R711010
I often get e-mails from places that I did not request e-mails. When you order anything online from a company, they automatically add you to their list. There is usually an "opt-out" feature somewhere on the site, but it is often small and buried under everything else. I routinely get over 100 e-mails a day in personal account, and at least 80 of these are from e-mail lists I did not sign up for in the first place. Many of these have "unsubscribe" links, but about 30% of them do not work. E-mail is a vitally important part of our communication structure in today's environment, and to have it bogged down by unwanted e-mails is dangerous.
