16 CFR Part 316; CAN-SPAM Rule: Rule Review; Request for Public Comments; Project No. R711010
CAN-SPAM Rule, 16 CFR Part 316, Project No. R711010. The opt-out provisions of the CAN-SPAM Rule remain absolutely essential as a protection against unwanted sexually explicit emails. One email address that the commenter has accumulated almost 2,500 such unwanted emails. It took me hours over several days to opt out of the unwanted emails, but at least there was an opt-out option. Without this opt-out option the unscrupulous purveyors of sexually explicit emails would continue to assault my email box. Another method for controlling unwanted emails is to have a Rule that commercial senders could only send such emails 1-2 times per year absent a specific request from the consumer that such emails continue more frequently.
