Audiology Resources, Inc.
Hearing Health and Technology -- Workshop, Project No. P171200
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for addressing this very timely and important topic and for allowing stakeholders to comment on the issue and the questions posed. Consumers have been clamoring for change to this industry for over a decade. As an audiologist, the most important thing for me to for hard of hearing consumers to have access to factual, unbiased information on products and services, access to and coverage of evidence based evaluation and treatment services from an audiologist, and, as needed, a physician, and easy access to safe, reliable and affordable amplification options. I truly believe that, if consumers are successful, stakeholders will be as well. This process can be a win-win-win for all parties. Attached please find my comments, which not only address the questions posed by the FTC, but also my view of landscape and possible solutions, based upon the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) and National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) reports. These reports provide an excellent, evidence based roadmap of the issues and needs of hard of hearing consumers.
