It should be realized that hearing loss and vision loss are not analogous in 90+ percent of hearing loss cases. The only hearing losses that can accurately be compared to vision loss is conductive-type which are less than 10% of all hearing losses. Wearing "cheaters" for vision loss is far different from wearing a "hearable" for sensorineural hearing loss. Because of the sensory loss of nerve endings in 90+ per cent of all hearing losses, persons who buy non-prescription hearing aids ("hearables") OTC will be most likely dissatisfied with hearing improvement and be even less likely to seek out the professional services of an audiologist in addition to losing their money on the purchased product.
