16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
I am a practicing optometrist who has no problem with my patients using their contact lens prescription to order their contact lenses elsewhere. It seems to me that this proposed change by the FTC that would require doctors to obtain a signed acknowledgment after releasing a contact lens prescription to a patient is an unnecessary regulation. It will cost the doctor's office more time and money to add this step to the office routine. It seems to me that it also casts suspicion on the doctor in the eyes of the patient. I ask you that you not implement this proposed ruling. Instead, I think it would be in the best interest of the contact lens consumer if the FTC worked harder to enforce existing regulations. For example, it is way too easy for patients to obtain contact lenses online without a current prescription. Thank you for your time. Layne Christensen, O.D.
