16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
It is the law for patients to receive their contact lens prescription at the end of their eye exam. It would be unnecessary to obtain a signed acknowledgement. Contact lenses are a medical device and it requires a doctor to evaluate the fit of the contact lens on a patient and their vision. What the FTC should propose is to regulate the illegal sales of contact lenses which put patients at risk for contact lens related infections. A signed acknowledgement is not protecting our patients.
