Having friends in college who suffered from corneal ulcers and infections from improper contact lens wear, I believe that contacts lenses should be given via prescriptions and monitored yearly. It is for the safety of the public, as many people treat contact lenses as accessories, when in fact they are medical devices. Seeing an eye doctor yearly to make sure a patient is not abusing their contact lenses is vital to their eye health. When contact lens prescriptions no longer have to be renewed each year, contact lens wearers will only go to their eye doctor once something goes wrong, and by then it may be too late to save the patients vision.
