This proposed rule change leaves doctors promoting the purchase of contact lenses away from the current practice and that includes online sales. This is a great risk to our patients and will take much more clinic time to educate about the proposed changes and the reasons why it doesn't make sense. The risk of purchasing a MEDICAL DEVICE online is that you have no way of accountability for the care of the patient after the device is purchased elsewhere. This leads to more problems back in our office. A medical device that goes into your body should not be an online commodity in the first place. FDA should be able to regulate the FTC in this instance and promote proper care for patients, not easier access to harmful "devices" online.
