In the Matter of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Inc., File No. 152-3034
Where is the fine? The language of business is money. Warner Bros., their hired agencies, and their hired YouTubers profited handsomely by lying to consumers through ads disguised as reviews. This order demonstrates to everyone else in the industry that they can continue lying and profiting until they get caught, at which point they will merely be told by the FTC to stop. I would like to see fines issued to the parties based on the profits earned from this game and these lies. Also, the parties could choose to pay future fines in perpetuity or to issue PSAs about their lying. These actions will cause others to realize that the FTC is serious about YouTube and interested in more than just public shaming and press releases.
