My wife and I have owned a Tesla Model S for 2 years. It is easily the best car experience of our lives. We were able to visit the Tesla showroom without being pressured. The sales staff patiently answered all of our questions, never trying to convince us that electric cars were a fad, impractical or soon to be replaced by a better technology (the way several traditional car dealers responded to our interest in electric cars). They also showed us how to order on-line, when we were ready. Most impressively, all of the information provided has proved accurate (again, unlike traditional car dealers). It wasn't long after receiving our Tesla that we found we didn't like driving cars with engines, so we sold our Lexus and get by on one car. We use it locally, but we have also driven it to Florida multiple times. Our only adjustment is to plan for recharging the car, so the abundance of Tesla's superchargers and public chargers influenced our buying decision and usage pattern. We have also found maintenance to be a superior experience. The cost is lower than other luxury car dealers, the notification about potential defects is faster (through a combination of social media, email and physical mail), and we have yet to be pressured to make a potentially unnecessary repair. Net: - Direct sales worked better for us than using a dealer - A company owned infrastructure supports our travels better than independent dealers - Company repair shops are offering superior value and quality We can't comprehend why there are laws in place to block this option for any consumers.
