I absolutely favor direct sales from the manufacturer over dealerships who add no value, except have a healthy markup over the invoice. I also don't believe service will be impacted if manufacturers are allowed to open their direct service center and both the dealership service centers and manufacturers service center can co-exist together. The argument that dealerships support local community is just distraction and no basis. They take money from the local community (buyers like me) and the a small portion of is spent on little-leagues and such. Manufacturers themselves will start doing this if you let them do direct sales. And they will have to employ sales and services people anyway from the local community. This monopoly and rent-seeking should go.
