FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
To the FTC: The only reason I buy all my cars through the dealership is because I have no choice. I wish I can just select the car, select my options and pay the same price as everyone else, then pick up the car when it's ready. Choice of options are an illusion because traditional Auto Dealers want to sell their inventory, not the car you actually want. Most people have to "settle" for added options (sunroof, leather, etc.) or wait. I waited 6 weeks for the car that I wanted and avoid the cost of options I do not want. The FTC and others can solve this debate by having a test. Allow Auto Manufacturers to sell directly and see which method people actually prefer.
