This is a capitalist country the last time I checked, about two minutes ago. The free market is based on the consumer having the choice and opportunity to purchase the product of his/her preference. It is also based on the retailer having the right to sell to any consumer who chooses their product/service. Any arguments to the contrary are simply against the free market. Politics and semantics do not excuse these arguments. The dealerships claim they are protecting the consumer by forcing all car companies to go through them for purchases and maintenance. These dealerships are owned and run by the same car companies losing lawsuits because people die in their cars because they wouldn't spend an additional 75 cents for ignitions that worked etc. The free market and the consumers demand of quality is where the real protection comes from.
