As a worker in the Service and Warranty Department for a manufacturer in an adjacent market, it is troubling to see the portrayal of the manufacturer as only acting in self-interest rather than that of the consumer. Our goal as a manufacturer is to provide the best consumer experience possible, otherwise we wouldn't have any consumers. If a manufacturer believes it can provide a better experience to the consumer through a company-owned dealership than through a franchise one, why should the state or federal government stop that? Just because those models have not worked in the past does not mean it is impossible for all future ventures. Let the consumer decide what works best for them.
