FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
I own a small software company in Utah and in order for us to succeed we have to constantly adapt to changes in the marketplace and industry. I can't expect the State to prop up my way of doing business in order to stifle my competition. The auto industry should be no different. The ban on direct sales is effectively propping up the major car manufacturers at the expense of innovative startups like Tesla and Elio. We believe in competition in this country so we shouldn't keep laws on the books that favor particular companies over others. If the major manufacturers don't want to sell direct they don't have to but that shouldn't preclude Tesla from doing so.
