And while the companies lobbying for direct sales will certainly have their own interests served best by such an allowance, it also happens that direct sales are the best practice in the current age. On the other hand, dealership groups are more interested in preserving what's been working for them, they have no motivation to change, and every motivation to fight direct sales with the proverbial tooth and nail.
