FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
The laws in some states prohibiting auto manufacturers from selling over the internet, building service centers, or offering test drives from small stores should be struck down. These only exist to protect a politically powerful collection of auto dealers These constitute anti-competitive violations. In Oregon only a handful of companies own most of the dealer outlets. The idea of the small local dealer is long gone. Fortunately, in Oregon, Tesla, Elio and hopefully others in the future are not hindered by the anti competitive laws present in other states. Please fix this problem at a federal level.
