Having purchased vehicles directly from the manufacturer, true classic avenues via a dealer, and from a dealer who was a close family friend, I can say with great confidence that the direct purchase was the best experience of them all and provided me the best deal as a consumer. Current protections of the dealership model do not serve the consumer, and they do not serve the manufacturer of actual products. They serve only to protect the profits of an antiquated system that kowtows to a narrow, greedy industry with very little actual benefit to anyone else. If we are going to claim to be a capitalist system, then let's permit suppliers to interact directly with demand. Allows sellers to sell to buyers. Nothing catastrophic will happen if we suddenly allow automobiles to be sold without a middleman. Let's all grow up and protect the population in general, not just a small subgroup that already has far too many protections. Please allow direct to consumer sales of automobiles and forbid any restrictions on this system.
