FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
In the world's leading capitalist society, one that prides itself on innovation and open markets, what possible justification is there for protectionist laws that artificially prop up entrenched interests over innovation, the consumer and new businesses? Not to mentioned car dealerships are universally loathed among the vast majority of the population. Why force this on consumers? If the dealer model is superior to the direct-to-consumer model, shouldn't it be tested in the open market? There is likely room for both, although the dealers would then be forced to compete. This is all a win for the consumer- the people. How is this even possible in the United States of America? What am I missing?
