FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
The need to allow companies like Tesla to sell directly to consumers is dramatically illustrated by the fact that many auto dealers will promote non-EV alternatives over EVs. Since much of auto dealer's profits are made on service such as oil change, which is significantly less in EVs, there is less incentive for traditional auto dealers to sell EVs. Some auto dealers have even discouraged buyers from considering EVs by spreading misinformation. It is not true that dealers are advocates for consumers. I have had horrible experience with traditional auto dealers, and I have nothing but praise for the buying and servicing experience with Tesla.
