FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
Plain and simple, protectionist laws need to be removed from auto dealers. Many of the reasons for keeping them only serve the actual dealers themselves, not the consumers. There is no reason why Tesla or any other automotive company should not be able to sell their products directly to the consumers. The fact that dealers are afraid of competition, American competition at that, shows how outdated they are. If they are as good as they claim to be, then the market will benefit them rather than others like Tesla that sell their products directly.
