Manufacturers should be able to sell directly to consumers, like in every other area of commerce. There's no reason other than monopolistic protectionism for auto manufacturer's to be required to sell through dealerships. Dealers' profits come from gouging on initial price, offering over-priced financing, and gouging on the cost of service after the sale. If consumers could buy directly from a manufacturer, there would be more transparency in price and service costs. Consumers could more easily compare products, and financing offers.
