Outdated dealer franchise laws are now used to protect the revenue of local millionaires whose primary incentive is to sell repair and maintenance service. Automobiles that require less service are an anathema to the dealership model, which will interfere with the adoption of newer, more efficient technologies. We need to level the playing field, promote fair trade practices, and repeal protectionist policies. We need to allow an Internet sales model and allow direct-to-consumer sales.
