FTC to Host Public Workshop Examining the U.S. Auto Distribution System Workshop Will Explore Competition, State Regulations, and Emerging Trends in the Industry, Project No. P131202
Car dealerships have a desire to push service revenue against new car features/sales. As such, only cars that provide them with sufficient service revenue are pushed by the sales people. I found it difficult to purchase the Prius when it first came out, and I had the same issue buying electric cars. Car dealerships are designed to provide them with an ongoing revenue stream, not to provide low TCO vehicles to the public. And their monopoly on access to new cars as well as the large dealer groups controls the ability of new technologies to enter the market.
