16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
The Contact Lens Rule is in the best interest of the patient. It is NECESSARY that yearly contact lens exams be kept and only those lenses prescribed by a doctor be purchased. Contact lenses are considered a medical device and when abused can have severe sight-threatening consequences. Patients can also develop allergies/adverse reactions to contact lenses and may be unaware of the severity of them. Seeing a doctor yearly to check the health of the eye and make necessary changes to contact lenses prescriptions/types/brands will ensure the best care for our patients. It must continue to be necessary to have yearly eye exams before renewing a patient's contact lens prescription.
