It is not unusual to see patents who have not had an eye examination in many years, wearing contacts from endless refills obtained from the internet. Some patients are even wearing a different brand because their brand was discontinued! This is detrimental to their corneal health and vision. A pharmacist will not fill a medication after the expiration date or give a patient a endless supply of drugs. Why is it different for contact lenses? A pharmacist can not switch medications without approval from the doctor. Internet contact lens seller will switch the lens. It is frustrating as a doctor to see corneal damage from contact lens abuse as patients bypasses the doctor.
