It is vital that contact lens patient receive an annual eye and contact lens exam. Contact lens is a medical device and if used improperly or without regular follow up can lead to eye infections, corneal ulcers or other eye injuries that can results in permanent vision damage. As an optometrist who has witnessed and treated patients who abuse their contact lenses, I urge the FTC to consider patients' safety concern first. Secondly, to prevent abuse of patient's prescription, I urge the FTC to institute a more rigorous regulation for contact lens prescription verification process. My office have learned that many online vendors have failed to verify contact lenses before dispensing contact lenses to patients. These illegal and misuse of contact lens dispensing privileges by online vendors must be halted.
