As an eye care professional practicing nearly 10 years, the overall health of my contact lens patient's corneas are my only concern. I am all for efficiency and patient access and affordability. However, I would like everyone to remember why we have doctors in the first place. Our jobs are to ensure the health of the public. Thus, no one should be allowed access to an expired prescription for contacts without having an annual eye health check and contact lens evaluation anything less is a sin. I had a patient 2 weeks ago, who is a contact lens patient who admitted to ordering contacts online in Canada for over a year with an expired prescription. Even though he was well aware of the risk this could potentially mean for his eye health, he did it ANYWAY! So, unless doctors are allowed to doctor. Patients will willing continue to participate in compete foolishness, then look to me to solve the problem when they are losing sight. So please let me know how this new law would prevent further patient ignorance? If the answer is that it does not, then please repeal.
