16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
The CDC is aware of the significant visually threatening infections causes by abuse of contact lenses. This abuse is furthered by companies that only care about the bottom line. If patients are allowed to what they want, then with that logic they can also not pay attention to medical advise given by family practitioner and not follow up for medical prescriptions. As optometrist, we are held at a high standard and must take responsibility for prescribing these. However, if a patient (uneducated in dangers of contacts) chooses whatever they want, then who will be responsible when the patient is blind. The Society as a whole becomes responsible because longer term issues that occur when they are disabled. This is issue causes serious consequences.
