This requirement already exists, as can be seen by the array of options on line and elsewhere for my patients to purchase their contact lenses. Contact lenses, which are controlled by the FDA like other medical devices, have prescriptions with expirations in an effort to protect the patient from injury. However, there is nothing that would prevent a patient from purchasing several years of contact lenses from different sources, making expiration unenforceable. Outside sellers have no provider/patient relationship and the patient has little legal recourse if they develop a problem with their eyes.
