16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
On a regular basis I have patients come in who haven't had an eye exam in years still wearing contact lenses. When asked how they still have contacts they stated that they buy them online because they don't require an Rx. I know that this is not true but the online retailers fill the Rx without ever contacting our office and allow the patients to purchase whatever they want. I feel that the biggest issue with this law is the passive verification that allows the seller to claim to have tried to verify the correct Rx, instead of actually having one on file. I do not understand how a medical device that has the potential to cause blindness and disability can be treat with such indifference.
