As a contact lens specialist, I also see many many patients with eye infections and other complications from ill fitting contact lenses or when patients wear their contact lenses improperly. Eye infections can be very costly to treat and leave patients with permanent blindess from scarring. All of this is preventable. When online companies sell contact lenses without a valid prescription, they are putting patient's health and sight at risk. By selling the contacts without verifying the prescription information and date of exam, they are encouraging patients to overwear their contact lenses and telling them that an examination with their doctor is not necessary. As a doctor, it is nearly impossible to treat a patient when 1800 Contacts and other online sellers make us look like the enemy. All we want as doctors is to ensure our patient's health and vision. But all 1800 Contacts wants is to make profit at the expense of the patient's health. Please support the medical and optometry community in putting a stop to their unethical and dangerous business.
