16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
Contact lenses are considered medical devices that need to be assessed on a yearly basis. Would you think it was safe to allow a patient to use his same blood pressure medication or diabetes medications for 10 years without being rechecked on an semi-annual or annual basis? I think not. The art of prescribing contacts is not as simple as " here is your prescription." You have to consider the patient, the type of lens that best suites them, different lens materials and designs. By allowing 'easier access' to contact lenses you are putting the American people at risk for corneal infections, diseases and a higher rate of difficult cases to manage down the line.
