16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
The contact lens act needs to be changed for patient's eye-health protection. Also, contact lens resellers must be stopped from aggresive and unethical marketing campaigns to call patients one week before their CL Rx expires, and trying to sell them a second years supply of contact lenses, when they know the patient is due for their annual eye health exam. This practice confuses patients into thinking that they do not need annual eyecare. Contact lens sellers should also be required to match the prescription and not allow substitutions of other brands. The sellers should also be required to contact the doctor's office when the office is open. There also needs to be a way to know that the Prescription is filled only for it's allowable time and not more than the maximum allowed. The patient should not be able to order the full amount from five different contact lens sellers.
