16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
I am an optometrist who specialized in cornea and contact lenses. I have seen the worst of what can happen when a consumer doesn't follow their doctor's recommendations when it comes to wearing contact lenses. They have been classified as a medical device for good reason. Many unfavorable outcomes have led to corneal scarring, transplants and blindness. When worn as directed, contacts can be a safe alternative to glasses. Sight is our most precious sense. Please regard that highly when making your decision and realize that there is no need for people to have unnecessary complications becasue they are using a device they haven't been properly trained on, fitted with or are using unsupervised by their doctor. Annual eye exams, especially for contact lens wearers are so important. The eyes are the window to the body and many other health conditions can be detected through an eye exam such as heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and many more.
