16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
This bill needs to be upheld and renewed to protect patient care and patient-doctor decision making relationships. Allowing doctors to prescribe appropriate lenses including brand and fit protects patients from sight-threatening infection and damages caused by an ill-fitting lens. One lens doesn't fit all. Trained doctors must determine that this is the case. It also needs to be upheld because 3rd party distributors of contact lenses commonly practice dishonest practices of distributing lenses before they receive appropriate prescription from an eye doctor. They also request prescriptions over the weekend knowing that the doctor's office can't provide them with the appropriate prescription in their allowed time. They, then, provide inappropriate lenses in unverified prescriptions.
