16 CFR Part 315; Agency Information Collection Activities: Review; Comment Request; Contact Lens Rule: FTC Project No. R511995
Dear Committee, I would like to request that you strongly consider the health and safety of the public when considering any changes to the Contact lens rule. Our patients have been very successful in safely wearing contacts for many years. Most of that is due to the care and diligence provided by their eye care providers. Annual evaluations of their corneas are a necessity if we are going to continue to ensure the health of our patients. The parameters for the contact lens along with the fitting of those lenses should be left to and monitored annually by a professional. These decisions should not be interfered with by a retailer. Unfortunately, the verification efforts of the current contact lens act have been trampled upon with little enforcement of any breaches. This should concern anyone who has concern for the eye health of the citizens of our country. I fear any loosening of the current guidelines will result in more harm to our patients. Please keep health and wellness of our citizens in mind when considering any change to the contact lens act. If anything we need more regulation rather than less. Thank you for your efforts.
