I have been releasing the contact lens Rx all along but it's very important patients receive the contact lenses that were prescribed by their eye doctor and the patient's ocular health is evaluated annually to decrease the risk of corneal compromise. Also it seems too easy for patients to reorder lenses even though the Rx is expired. If patients aren't returning for eye health evaluations before re-ordering lenses, there could be problems going on with their eyes that they aren't aware of until the problem has gotten so bad that they have to come in for urgent care. We see this scenario quite often with patients who are wearing their lenses improperly, or not caring for the lenses properly. If we see them on a yearly basis it enables us to touch base with them and monitor the corneal condition, discovering problems in an earlier state and re-educating the patient on proper care and maintenance as well as proper wearing and replacement schedule.
