A doctor's actual contact lens Rx should be required for submission to the online contact lens seller. Simply reading the blister pack numbers should not be sufficient. Why? Because patients repeatedly try to use expired Rxs and skip their annual exams. I currently have a patient trying to do this. Eventually she will succeed because someone out there will dispense the contacts without the actual Rx. She never received the renewal of her contact lens Rx. She declined the exam for contacts. Giving the prescribing optometrist only 24 hours to confirm the validity of the Rx is also too narrow a window. We take vacations or time off for continuing education. Give us at least 48-72 hours to confirm.
